An Introduction – Spitting Pig Essex

Looking at the blogs of fellow Spitting Pig caterers on this site, it is amazing to see the similar experiences we are all having across the country. We have occasional contact with our Spitting Pig colleagues in other counties, when helping to deliver larger events.
But when I read my fellow Spitting Pig caterer blogs, I see an amazing consistency in the feedback received from customers. Whether comments on the food or on customer service, the feedback is consistently outstanding – whether events have been held in Lands End, John O’Groats or anywhere in between!

And that is no coincidence.

We all cook food the same way, using only the freshest meat and produce (always bought and prepared on the day). We use seasoning skills acquired over 20 years of working with different meats, which bring out the succulent flavours over hours of cooking – each and every time. We of course use the same, slow hog roast cooking methods and very similar equipment too. And finally we each work to a standard which delivers exceptional customer service, whatever the requirements of the event.

This standard of cooking excellence and dedication to customer service has made Spitting Pig the number one hog roast event catering service in the country. We’re very proud of our success at Spitting Pig Essex, and in how we’ve helped contribute to the wider success of the company.

We keep contact cards (which include space for feedback) on display in our outside event catering trailer. Of course, most people don’t have the time or inclination to write down feedback, though we still get some handwritten comments. Mostly though, people just take the cards away for when they need a caterer.

The feedback we get is normally verbal and it’s always similar to the feedback received by my Spitting Pig colleagues around the country, with the only negative comments generally that the food has been so popular that we’ve run out! People love the traditional style and taste of our cooking and the flexibility we offer – both in the range of foods and the events we can cater for.

We catered at semi-professional football team’s awards dinner recently. It was an event that could best be described as formal but informal! We waited on tables and served two hog roasts which were very popular and quickly disappeared! In fact, they were so popular that, when it came down to the last few portions of meat and crackling, some guests broke ranks and went straight over to the serving counter for fear they would miss out.

Considering that most of them had already had one to two full hog roast meal servings, and that we had waiting staff serving the tables all night, it is quite some compliment that the meal concluded with this desperate scramble for the last servings. And of course everyone wants the crackling! Our staff took it all in good spirits and happily accommodated the scrambling footballers.

The night was such a great success that we’re already booked for the club’s Christmas party. We may just ask next time if they’d prefer a buffet!
