18th Birthday – Essex

We had a great sweet 18th birthday event yesterday. Honestly I felt like one of those events off MTV. I don’t remember having quite so many people wanting to celebrate my birthday when I was 18!
When we arrived there was already a lots of stuff set up in really super great big garden at the customers property. There was a bouncy castle and bunches of stuff all set up for the birthday girl. Thankfully they had provided a huge marquee for all the guests to be seated in and there was heaps of room for us. Which is good because this was an important event for us. In fact this was one of the largest events we have catered for this year so we had to make sure everything was just right. We started our two hogs on the roast and started getting everything else ready. We pretty much just kept to ourselves and did our thing because before long here were loads more people around us setting more decorations up and a band getting ready and doing a sound check. We were busy little bees getting everything ready. A well as the hogs we had half a dozen chickens and salads, olives, fresh breads and plenty of drinks for the many guests. I think we cleared 200 this time actually!
Anyway soon the party was well under way an the birthday girl was loving every minute of it. She was in her element and loved being the center of attention.
We started serving. All of our team were in uniform and people really just kind of ignored us which was fine as it gave us chance to do our job and do it well too if I might add.
The girls were like whirling dervish serving and collecting plates. All smiles and professional. The pigs were incredible. So juicy and we did a great job on the bastes for them both. One had a honey and clove baste and the other a traditional herb butter baste.
I was about to take a break when the party girls dad called everyone’s attention. Yep you guessed it, they’d bought her a brand new car, with a huge ribbon on it and everything. Lucky lass! She was thrilled to bits. The bands started up again and it was like they didn’t skip a beat. Back to everyone having a grand old time.
I had a walk around to check everything was ok and received a load of really nice compliments on the food
The party went on for hours and we ended up not packing up until the early hours but honestly we had just as good a time as everyone else. It was a fantastic event and our roasts were fantastic. Oh and extra special thanks to the team. You all did fantastically. Not sure how long it will be until we get a another really large event like this one but I am already looking forward to it.
