The guests at last Sundays party event I catered for left it knowing that Spitting Pig is the first and best hog roast caterer. I cooked for Ashley and all those he invited to his 38th birthday party the most delicious spit roast chickens and spit roast pig on earth. That combination is one people often like and it’s one particularly that I enjoy cooking, a whole roast pig on one spit roast machine and rows of whole chickens on another, a magical backdrop which can leave people speechless at any event. Working behind that for hours each day I know as well as anybody that it can really drum up an appetite, which is just what you want. If the guests couldn’t see that appetising inducing spectacle it’s unlikely they’d be able to handle the abundant spit roast portions that we serve them!
A few of the children at the event would run up to me every few minutes with the characteristic impatience you might expect from young ones, the adults were no doubt feeling the same eagerness for their hog roast but they preferred to watch and wait with a bit more patience. When the plated hog roast rolls were taken to the table by the waiting team there was no difference between adult and child, both were quick to sink their teeth into Essex favourite hog roast.
On Sunday a beer festival was on the cards in Colchester. The event looked like this: More than 400 people, lots of beer, some reasonable enough weather (for September at least) and a mouth watering double hog roast whammy that made even the event attendees question their priorities. Some of the best microbrewed beer around or the tastiest hog roast there is? It would be a hard choice but thankfully guests weren’t forced to choose, they had the best of both worlds. The hog roast was I think the perfect compliment to the event, we really get on well with so many of the people and there was a lot of respect both ways for our passions. Well more than 100kg of fresh spit roast pig was cooked, carved and consumed throughout the festival
