As it’s no longer officially summer, we were a little surprised to be asked to cater a beach party for a 10th birthday celebration on Sunday. Elaine called us and asked if there was any possibility of a beach hog roast Elmstead and as our machines are portable and very mobile, they can actually manage many different types of terrain – and that includes sand. Plus as we use gas bottles, we don’t need to need to be near mains electric, so we can cook just about anywhere you like. Elaine booked us for the occasion and I looked forward to the family party, which I could cater by myself as it was just 9 guests.
I arrived at the beach venue on Sunday morning and it was a gloomy, overcast day but with no real threat of rain thankfully. I found a nice spot in the sand not too far away from shelter just in case, and set up the gazebo over the hog roast ElmsteadĀ machine and set to work. To prepare this small pig, I scored it, poured some cold water over it and then rubbed some salt into the skin. That’s how easy it is – easier than you probably thought! It usually takes about 3 hours to roast a small pig this size and while I kept a watchful eye over it and the amazing aromas filled the air around me, Elaine, the birthday boy Josh and the rest of the family arrived for a day on the beach complete with a spectacular hog roast Elmstead. It was actually attracting other beachgoers who even asked if they could buy some, but unfortunately for them, this hog was all for Josh and his family on this particular day.
While the hog rested for the last half an hour, I sliced the floury bread rolls and put the apple sauce and stuffing into containers next to the condiments. After serving the guests with sandwiches of delicious pork, crunchy crackling and our homemade toppings, they were too full to play beach games and had to rest for a while. I stripped the hog clean to leave the family with the extra food for later, then the sun came out and my job was done, so I cleared away and left them to it.
