The ever popular spring event had been announced and was to take place in Bulmer’s park and it was the soap box derby. Some people had spent over 6 months designing and making their go- karts. It was all about speed and who had the coolest design. You could tell who were entering for the first time and who were old hands at it. The same guy had won for 3 years running so everybody knew who they had to beat.
We at Hog Roast Bulmer were asked to do a spit roast for the end of the race. We were given free rein on what we decided to choose. As it was going to be a family event we chose the most popular thing which was BBQ pulled pork sandwiches. Everyone no matter where we go seems to enjoy these. A large pig was prepared early that morning and put on the spit to slowly cook.
People started to arrive with trailers and their go- karts strapped to it. There was some really fancy paint work on a few (these were the ones who seemed to take it seriously). Some you knew weren’t going to get very far because the design was too over the top but they were there to have fun and that’s all that mattered to them. Each kart set off at different times and timed and the one who made it in one piece down the slope in the fastest time was the winner.
As everyone was waiting to find out who the winner was we at Hog Roast Bulmer thought it was the perfect time to serve up our delicious BBQ pulled pork sandwiches. The meat was cooked to perfection as usual by our chef. He’d marinated the pig in our secret BBQ sauce recipe for several hours before slowly cooking it off on the spit roast. The pig was then pulled apart and our catering staff filled baps with pork, apple sauce for anyone who wanted it and lots of crispy crackling was also available!
Just as we were clearing away the winners were announced, but regardless a great day was had by everyone, including us!
