While Hog Roast Brentwood has catered many special occasions over the years, including wedding receptions, birthday parties, christenings, corporate events and so much more, we were recently asked to cater something a little bit different. ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ is a reality TV programme that airs on the TLC Channel, where a bride-to-be gets some expert help in choosing her wedding dress. For our customers Charlie and Georgina’s big day, Georgina choosing her dress and then their wedding would be filmed for the show, meaning so would we, roasting meat to perfection for the couple and their guests!
For the venue, the couple chose the gorgeous Hutton Poplars Hall. Steeped in fascinating history, this prestigious building was built in 1906 to be a residential home for destitute children, and was built after Angela Lansbury’s grandfather campaigned for it. Restored by Brentwood Borough Council in 1991, Hutton Poplars Hall is now a versatile events space that’s particularly popular for weddings. For this lovely wedding reception, Hog Roast Brentwood arrived early in the morning in order to start preparing the meat and to set up our equipment.
Charlie and Georgina had selected our Southern Slow Roast menu to be served on real plates, and with this menu you can choose three meats from barbecued pork butt, Cajun-spiced whole roasted chicken, Texan 24-hour beef brisket, Louisiana sticky pork ribs and Creole pulled spiced lamb. These are all roasted low and slow, are marinated in our special rubs and are accompanied by a Jack Daniels Smokey Sweet BBQ Glaze, Stubbs Hickory Bourbon Legendary BBQ Sauce and a super-spicy Cajun hot pepper sauce. Additionally, our customers can choose four side dishes, such as crunchy coleslaw, corn cobettes, a Greek salad, spicy sweet potato wedges, mac n cheese, green leaf salad and skin-on baked potatoes. With all this wonderful food, no one would be going hungry at this wedding meal!
From 3pm onwards, our team at Hog Roast Brentwood was busy serving around 140 guests plenty of our lovely, hot, fresh, food, and it was all finished off beautifully with our scrumptious desserts of chocolate and lemon tortes, each served with summer berries and fresh cream.
