Hog Roast Roxwell were delighted when we were asked last week to provide the catering for the opening of a new community centre, that would enrich the lives of local people by providing a facility where they can make new friends and learn new skills, such as cooking, arts and crafts, creative writing and dancing. It’s always very rewarding to be involved in an event of this kind and we had a great turnout, which is a testament to the community spirit in the local area, and also may have had something to do with our delicious hog roast!
The event was organised by a group of dedicated volunteers and they felt (correctly so!) that we could offer a style of catering that would get everyone involved in the cooking process and create more of a community feel than a more formal meal would. Whilst we can do formal very well and are also happy to stay behind the scenes if that’s what you prefer, the Hog Roast Roxwell catering team love it when the guests get involved and take an interest in our traditional cooking methods.
So as instructed, we let our succulent hog roast and the chef, who had spent the day patiently preparing it to perfection, take centre stage and chat to the locals as he carved the tender meat. With no reluctance whatsoever about being in the limelight, he was more than happy to be the centre of attention and wow everyone with his knife skills! The guests didn’t let him steal all the glory though, as they were equally impressed with the immaculate efforts of the rest of the catering team and the compliments were flying in thick and fast about our imaginative crispy Thai and carrot and orange salads. So much so, the people who had decided to sign up for cookery classes, were trying to steal our recipes!
Judging by the turnout and the brilliant reception our food received, Hog Roast Roxwell are in no doubt that the new community centre will be a great success and improve the lives of local people by bringing them together to learn something new. The cooking class will have to come up with their own salad ideas though!
